Refreshingly, the usual hubbub invoked by a man falling for another man is absent from Yutaka and Minoru’s love story. It explores themes of self-acceptance, grief, as well as the highs and lows of any given relationship. Our Dining Table by Ori Mita has a simple premise, but the story does more than detail Japanese recipes. As swift as a whisk, Yutaka would be welcomed into the Ueda household not only as a chef but as a valued member of the family. Nevertheless, thanks to an impulsive 4-year-old named Tane and his adult brother Minoru, a savory change in course was underway.
